LassoCut for AI assistants (MCP)

The LassoCut connector adds background removal to Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor and Windsurf: ask in plain English, and the assistant calls LassoCut for you. No dashboard, no separate upload step.

What it does

The connector exposes three tools to the assistant:

  • remove_background — removes the background from one or more images: file paths, whole folders, or image URLs. Preview by default; full size, a background colour, cropping and output format are all options.
  • get_credits — checks your credit balance and how many free previews you have left this month.
  • sign_in — connects your LassoCut account, right from the chat.

Example requests: “Remove the background of the photos in D:\Shop\new” or “Make these 3 images full size on a white background.” Results are saved next to each original file; for an image URL, the result is saved to your Downloads folder unless you give an absolute output folder.

Install

Claude Desktop

Download the extension and double-click the file; Claude Desktop installs it and runs it for you, on the Node.js it bundles, so there is nothing else to install. An API key in the extension's settings is optional — you can sign in from the chat instead.

Claude Code, Cursor and Windsurf run the connector with npx, which needs Node.js 20 or later already installed.

Signing in

Ask the assistant to sign you in. The sign_in tool opens the LassoCut approval page in your browser, and also gives you the link and a code right away, in case the browser doesn't open on its own. Approve there, then ask the assistant to check your credits. This key is shared with lassocut login, the command-line tool — sign in with either one and both use it. You can also paste a key from your account into Claude Desktop's extension settings, but that field is optional.

Costs and guardrails

  • Preview by default: 0.25 credit, and every account gets 50 free previews per month.
  • Full size: 1 credit per image, only when you ask for it.
  • Up to 50 images per request.
  • Asking for full size on more than 10 images: the assistant shows the cost and your balance, and waits for your OK before it charges anything.
  • Existing files are never overwritten.

Privacy

Images you process are sent only to the LassoCut API, to remove the background; the connector doesn't send them anywhere else. See the privacy policy for how results and data are kept.
