Remove image backgrounds in WordPress and WooCommerce
WordPress plugins that call the remove.bg API stop working on 1 December 2026. The lassocut plugin removes backgrounds from the Media Library and from WooCommerce product images, and always keeps your originals.
Status: submitted to the WordPress.org plugin directory and waiting for review. Until then, install it from the file below.
Install
- In WordPress, go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin, choose the .zip file and activate it.
- Open Settings → lassocut and paste your API key from your account. The page shows your credits.
- Choose the size (full resolution, preview, or the largest your credits allow) and the background: empty for a transparent PNG, or a colour such as
fffffffor a JPG on white.
Use
- Media Library (list view): click Remove background under an image, or select several and use the bulk action (20 at a time).
- WooCommerce → Products: select products and use Remove background from main image. The cut-out becomes the product image.
The result is a new image named …-removebg.png next to the original, with the same alt text. Nothing is overwritten.
Coming from a remove.bg plugin
Deactivate it, install lassocut and add your lassocut key. Images already processed stay in your library. remove.bg credits cannot be used on lassocut.
