LassoCut for e-commerce: one clean look for every product photo

Product photos come from different shoots, rooms and phones. LassoCut removes the background so every item in your store sits on the same transparent, white or brand-colour background, from a WordPress plugin, a browser tool or the API.

The problem

A catalogue is only as tidy as its most cluttered photo. When one product sits on a kitchen table, the next on a lawn and a third on a white sheet, your category pages look uneven and the products are harder to compare. Cutting each one out by hand takes minutes per photo, and it has to be done again every time you add a product or change your store's style.

If your store relies on a plugin or a script that calls the remove.bg API, that step stops working on 1 December 2026: see the shutdown guide for dates and sources.

The right tool for your store

  • WooCommerce (WordPress): the LassoCut plugin adds Remove background from main image to the Products list. Select products, run it, and the cut-out becomes the product image; the original stays in the Media Library.
  • Shopify, Etsy or any other store: there is no LassoCut app inside those platforms. Run the batch tool on the folder of a shoot before you upload it, or add a LassoCut step to a Zapier Zap that picks up new images from Google Drive, Dropbox or Shopify.
  • Your own store or back office: call the API when a product image is uploaded, with bg_color=ffffff for white or no background for a transparent PNG.

Transparent PNGs suit themes that put products on a coloured card; a JPG on white is lighter and looks the same on every theme. The batch tool offers both, plus any colour.

Questions

Will LassoCut overwrite my original product photos?

No. The WordPress plugin saves the cut-out as a new image next to the original, and the batch tool writes results to a separate folder or a ZIP. Your originals stay where they are.

Can every product get exactly the same white background?

Yes. Choose White in the batch tool, enter ffffff as the background in the WordPress plugin, or send bg_color=ffffff to the API: every result gets the same pure white, whatever the original background was.

Does it work with Shopify?

Not as a Shopify app. Shopify sellers use the batch tool before uploading, or a Zapier Zap between Shopify and LassoCut. The platforms page lists every way in.

Which file formats can I use?

JPG, PNG or WebP in, up to 22 MB per photo; results come out as PNG, JPG or WebP, full size up to 25 MP (PNG up to 10 MP).

Try it on your own photo
